We believe that teamwork is an absolute necessity to get the job done. Our focus has always been to work with our Clients to provide innovative solutions, unsurpassed service and the fastest cycle time in our industry. Teamwork is the foundation of our long-term relationships with our Clients.
We have pioneered innovations and advances in wood framing services unprecedented in the wood construction industry: from digitized analysis of plan information, our material requirement and specification program, work cell scheduling, on-site supervision, to our standardized quality assurance process that judges every function from writing a proposal to fastening roof sheathing.
Our project managers and superintendants manage a workforce of hundreds of skilled carpenters. Through intelligent scheduling of our large pool of associates and integrating our proprietary work cell scheduling methods, we can accurately schedule our crews to staff our projects to suit our clients' changing needs.
The 5-STAR Way
5-STAR provides the knowledgeable integration of the material lists, manufactured products and our field labor with the building plan and specifications.
We receive the digital plan information and consider code requirements, fastening details, hold-down hardware and use-patterns of our carpenters to create an efficient and meticulous material list we refer to as the Material Requirement and Specification document (MRS).
The MRS provides us the ability to generate the “Assured” ship list utilizing the most current technology combined with plan, code and manufacturer requirements, all integrated with 5-STAR labor practices.
5-STAR is committed to providing the best wood frame experience in the Southeast. The buildings we construct are supported by the care, expertise, quality and experience of our 5-STAR team of associates and not just the foundation of mere concrete and steel.
The Old Way
Salespeople and estimators determine the appropriate material quantities by reading the building plans for specifications of the type, size, strength and connections related to the materials they supply. They use customary or industry standard formulas when calculating quantities and sizes without regard for how the assigned installer will function.
Manufacturers of building materials ensure the structure and geometry of the individual products they manufacture but do nothing to specify or ensure the balance of the materials sent to the job will work in conjunction with their specifications and design. It is common for specialty manufacturers to allow for some field adjustments or modifications and for those areas not be clearly identified.
Subcontractors are paid to complete the installation of individual product areas and use the materials provided to construct a building according to the building plan and component layouts they were provided. No direction is given regarding what material is specified for which locations of the project. Material is generally staged onsite for the subcontractor to pick and choose what to do. As soon as a crew gets their stage completed they will get paid. There is generally little attention given to efficient material use.
